20 years of Macintosh (1984-2004)

The 1984 Macintosh Ad

The half-time of the 1984 Super Bowl featured a 45 second ad that would be declared in 1995 the best ad of the last 50 years. The commercial, directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, etc) for Apple, announced the imminent arrival of the Macintosh computer. The ad cost $1.6 million to produce, and Apple paid $500,000 for the one-minute time slot in which it ran. It ran only once.

On the 6th of January 2004, during Steve Jobs keynote at the Macworld Expo, Apple ran this ad for the second time... Or at least, that's what Steve Jobs said, and that is what everybody believed...

In fact, the 2004 version has been digitally modified by placing an iPod on the sledgehammer wielding runner.
